About The Artist

With the exception of attending a half dozen or so watercolor workshops by nationally known watercolorists such as Tony Couchand David Drummond, Ron Leonhardt is primarily self-taught, having begun painting watercolors in 1978 under the guidance of local watercolorist, Jerry Baum. Ron admires the techniques and styles of John Salminen, Dean Mitchell, Elaine Daily-Birnbaum and Moh’d Bilbeisi. Over the last four years, he has been heavily involved in the Watercolor Society of Indiana and has had paintings accepted in the last three years’ annual juried WSI exhibitions at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Two of his paintings in those exhibits have been selected for awards; i.e., the Kathleen Cornelius award in the 2017 exhibit and the WSI memorial award in the 2018 exhibit. Ron is a signature member of the society and has been nominated to serve on the WSI Board of Directors beginning in 2019. His style ranges from realistic to his more recent venture into abstract. Ron lives in Evansville with his wife, Carole, an accomplished weaver.
